Waiting on Wednesday: 1/4/12 Edition

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted at Breaking the Spine, and the object is to spotlight a book you are waiting patiently (or not-so-patiently, more likely) to read.

What book? The Story of Us by Deb Caletti

When does it come out? Not soon enough April 24th, 2012

Why am I waiting on this book?  Um, hello, because it is Deb freaking Caletti.  I am absolutely in love with her writing.  She is tied with Sarah Dessen for my favorite YA author, which is saying something, as Dessen has been my #1 for years, and I only discovered Caletti in 2011.  In fact, I wish I had thought to write a review after I read Stay, because I would have raved on and on about it.  While I have absolutely enjoyed the other books of hers that I have read, Stay is the one that convinced me of her genius.  But as for The Story of Us, I am also just excited because it sounds really good!  And you can always trust Caletti to take something that sounds good and put her own spin on it until it's mind-blowingly fantastic and you have no idea how it happened.  Also, the cover is stunning!  And the name Cricket now makes me think of Lola and the Boy Next Door, which is definitely a good association.  However, since the Cricket in this book is a girl, I won't have to worry about getting them mixed up/comparing them in my head.  I will be pre-ordering this one when the time comes, anxiously checking my mailbox every day.  Unfortunately, it looks like it will probably wind up coming during the week before finals, which is always the craziest week for me.  But she'll be worth it, I have no doubt.

  1. I've seen so many posts on this book this week! It looks similar to a Sarah Dessen novel, I think.
I really like the name Cricket - I haven't read Lola and the Boy Next Door yet, but I loved Anna and the French Kiss, so it's definitely on my list.

That's so exciting! This book deserves all the promotion it can get. :)

Yes, it does look similar to Dessen. Caletti and Dessen are often similar in the types of stories they write, but their styles of approach and execution are so different that, while two books might share bare bones similarities, the finished products are completely unique and, usually, pretty darn awesome.

Oh, I would definitely recommend Lola! I loved Anna, but I liked Lola even more. ♥
