Waiting on Wednesday: 8/8/12 Edition

What book? Going Vintage by Lindsey Leavitt

When does it come out? March 26, 2013

What is it about? When Mallory discovers that her boyfriend, Jeremy, is cheating on her with an online girlfriend, she swears off boys. She also swears off modern technology. Inspired by a list of goals her grandmother made in 1962, Mallory decides to "go vintage" and return to a simpler time (when boyfriends couldn't cheat on you online). She sets out to complete grandma's list: run for pep club secretary, host a dinner party, sew a homecoming dress, find a steady, do something dangerous. But the list is trickier than it looks. And obviously finding a steady is out . . . no matter how good Oliver (Jeremy's cousin) smells. But with the help of her sister, she'll get it done. Somehow.

Why am I waiting on this book? How fantastic does this book sound? I'm the sort of person who can spend hours in an antique store, looking at the old hats and kitchen utensils and wishing I lived in the time when I could use them. I love the old lingo like "steady." How adorable is that? When I first heard about this book, I thought it was pretty much made for me, and my opinion hasn't swayed. I like the original premise, and it appeals to me like crazy. I would really love to read about a girl boycotting technology, embracing her grandmother's list that reflected life of a teenage girl in the early 1960's, and possibly falling in love along the way. I can't wait until this book comes out!

What book? Pizza, Love, and Other Stuff That Made Me Famous by Kathryn Williams

When does it come out? August 21, 2012

What is it about? Sixteen-year-old Sophie Nicolaides was practically raised in the kitchen of her family’s Italian-Greek restaurant, Taverna Ristorante. When her best friend, Alex, tries to convince her to audition for a new reality show, Teen Test Kitchen, Sophie is reluctant. But the prize includes a full scholarship to one of America's finest culinary schools and a summer in Napa, California, not to mention fame. Once on-set, Sophie immediately finds herself in the thick of the drama—including a secret burn book, cutthroat celebrity judges, and a very cute French chef. Sophie must figure out a way to survive all the heat and still stay true to herself. A terrific YA offering--fresh, fun, and sprinkled with romance.

Why am I waiting on this book? Everything about this book sounds like something I'm going to enjoy! The title is fun, the cover is adorable (the picture AND the typography), and the premise sounds absolutely delightful. I love stories centered around chefs/kitchen atmospheres, despite never wanting to actually work in one myself. I've been waiting on this one for a while, and I really hope it's going to be worth the wait once I (finally) get my hands on it.

What book? The Golden Lily (Bloodlines #2) by Richelle Mead

When does it come out? June 12, 2012 (Razorbill)

Why am I waiting on this book? Um, if you are asking my this question, you quite clearly have NOT read the first one. Or the Vampire Academy series. And if you haven't, I would highly recommend them. So much love! Anyway, I've been waiting for this book for what seems like half of forever, and the main reason I'm excited can be summed up in one word: ADRIAN. Because really. HELLO. And I actually loved Sydney a lot more than I expected to in the first one, so I am really looking forward to seeing her character explored even further. Not to mention, I've seen a couple glowing reviews that make it seem like this book is going to be even better than I've estimated in my head. Honestly, the 10 days between June 10 and 20 are going to be like YA heaven for me, what with My Life Next Door, Something Like Normal, and this. I believe there are a couple others, too, but these three are the main ones. Not that I will get all of them immediately, of course. Despite putting it on hold at the library a month ago, I'm still in 73rd place for The Golden Lily. I suppose more anticipation makes me more appreciative of the end result, though, right? So there's a silver lining.

What book? In Honor by Jessi Kirby

What is it about? Hours after her brother’s military funeral, Honor opens the last letter Finn ever sent. In her grief, she interprets his note as a final request and spontaneously decides to go to California to fulfill it. Honor gets as far as the driveway before running into Rusty, Finn’s best friend since third grade and his polar opposite. She hasn’t seen Rusty in ages, but it’s obvious he is as arrogant and stubborn as ever—not to mention drop-dead gorgeous. Despite Honor’s better judgment, the two set off together on a voyage from Texas to California. Along the way, they find small and sometimes surprising ways to ease their shared loss and honor Finn’s memory—but when shocking truths are revealed at the end of the road, will either of them be able to cope with the consequences?

When does it come out? May 8, 2012

Why am I waiting on this book? If I may counter your question with another question...How could you not want to read this?! Everyone is totally free to have their own tastes, obviously. But this book just looks amazing. Romance, angst, road trip, interesting characters, conflicting relationship, WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR IN A BOOK? Needless to say, I have been obsessively checking my library catalog to see when they will add this so I can put a hold on it. Like, seriously obsessively. I have checked pretty much every single day for the past two weeks. But anyway. Now that you know what I do in my free time, we can return to the book. But I guess I've about covered it. In Honor looks like it's going to be seventeen kinds of amazing, and I can't wait to read it!

What book? My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick

When does it come out? June 14, 2012

Why am I waiting on this book? Okay, so. I'm not sure I can give you a completely logical response to this question. I haven't heard anything about this book yet. But every once in a while, you see a book, fall in love with the cover and summary, and it just seems to click. It calls to you. And you know you have to read it as soon as humanly possible. You know that you will love it. And if it doesn't live up to everything you think it will be, it is devastating. For me, that happened with My Life Next Door. I am anxiously awaiting its release, and I plan to pick it up from Barnes & Noble the day it's released to ensure that I get it as quickly as humanly possible. I also plan to sequester myself far from any possible interruptions. It's going to be a great day.

What are you guys waiting on this week? Have you ever felt that immediate connection with a book before?

What book? Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore

When does it come out? May 2012

Why am I waiting on this book? I love love love the Graceling series (Oh, excuse me, I guess it's technically the Seven Kingdoms series. In my mind, it's the Graceling series). I discovered Graceling last year, read it at superhuman speed, and proceeded to make my friends Lynne and Grace read it because it was just that good. At the beginning of Fire, I did not think I would like it as much, but I wound up loving it, too. The books all take place in this original world with lots of romance and danger and adventure. The characters are always so original, and I enjoy Cashore's writing. I cannot wait to find out what happens next in the seven kingdoms!

What book? Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally

When does it come out? October 2012 (otherwise known as way way way far away)

Why am I waiting on this book? If you are asking this question, clearly you haven't read Catching Jordan. If this is the case, you should! I was excited beyond belief for Catching Jordan because the summary sounded so similar to a favorite book of mine in middle school. It was not what I expected; Kenneally threw in a twist. And I loved every minute of it! It was a great book. My friend and I discussed the possibility of a sequel at length, deciding which characters it would feature. We obviously didn't come up with this, as it features main characters that are only connected loosely to the first, as far as I can tell. But this one looks so good! I always love a baseball setting in books, even though I am not a fan of watching it (I'm much more of a football girl). The premise sounds fascinating; I can't wait to see what Kenneally will do with it. The cover is super cute. Basically, this book cannot get here fast enough! It's going to be great.

Sidenote: I am still holding out for a sequel featuring Jordan's older brother. If I can will a book into existence purely from determination, this will totally happen.

What book? Hallowed by Cynthia Hand

When does it come out? 6 days! So close! Normally, I wouldn't post about one that was coming out so soon, but I am incredibly impatient to get my hands on this book.

Why am I waiting on this book? I just finished Unearthly (review to come when Bout of Books is over), and I am absolutely in love. I cannot wait to get more from these characters! I love the world, the setting, the idea, the execution, the possibilities of what might happen in the future. Plus, I've heard great reviews. Basically, I have no money at the moment and am in sixth place on the one copy that my library ordered. I am crying over how long it will take to get here. But! When it does, I will just be that much more excited. :)

Now, I'm off to finally go read beyond the prologue of Audition!

What book? The Story of Us by Deb Caletti

When does it come out? Not soon enough April 24th, 2012

Why am I waiting on this book?  Um, hello, because it is Deb freaking Caletti.  I am absolutely in love with her writing.  She is tied with Sarah Dessen for my favorite YA author, which is saying something, as Dessen has been my #1 for years, and I only discovered Caletti in 2011.  In fact, I wish I had thought to write a review after I read Stay, because I would have raved on and on about it.  While I have absolutely enjoyed the other books of hers that I have read, Stay is the one that convinced me of her genius.  But as for The Story of Us, I am also just excited because it sounds really good!  And you can always trust Caletti to take something that sounds good and put her own spin on it until it's mind-blowingly fantastic and you have no idea how it happened.  Also, the cover is stunning!  And the name Cricket now makes me think of Lola and the Boy Next Door, which is definitely a good association.  However, since the Cricket in this book is a girl, I won't have to worry about getting them mixed up/comparing them in my head.  I will be pre-ordering this one when the time comes, anxiously checking my mailbox every day.  Unfortunately, it looks like it will probably wind up coming during the week before finals, which is always the craziest week for me.  But she'll be worth it, I have no doubt.

Waiting on Wednesday: 12/28/11 Edition

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted at Breaking the Spine, and the object is to list a book you are waiting patiently (or not-so-patiently, more likely) to read. It looked like fun, so I thought I would include it. The actual process of choosing the book was difficult, though not nearly as harrowing as I thought it would be. There are many (many, many, many) books I am looking forward to reading in 2012. However, as excited and/or impatient for them as I am, none of them compare to the happy dance I did when I saw that this book was coming out in 2012.  My pick for my first Waiting on Wednesday is:

What book?  So Pretty It Hurts (#6 in the Bailey Weggins Mystery series) by Kate White

When does it come out?  March 2012

Why am I waiting on this book? I absolutely adored this series during my mid-to-late teen years.  And the romance was finally getting good...then nothing.  Kaput.  The last book was published in 2007, and I was fairly confident I would never see another one.  Then, a few weeks ago, I found this listed on Goodreads!  To say I was thrilled would be an understatement.  Even though I am not an avid mystery reader anymore, I still enjoy them on occasion. I was so enamored with this series that I will definitely be checking this out.  It also doesn't hurt (heh) that the cover is stunningly gorgeous!
